Boodles Secret Garden

Collaboration with Thomas Hoblyn for RHS Chelsea Flower Show

We were delighted to collaborate with renowned landscape designer Thomas Hoblyn and luxury jeweller Boodles to bring The Boodles Secret Garden to life at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Inspired by Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic children’s novel, the garden was conceived as a contemporary interpretation of a journey into an enchanted, life-changing sanctuary.

The cornerstone of the garden is a modular timber pavilion created in our workshop, designed as an immersive passage that invites visitors into a quiet world of discovery. To encase the space alongside British Taxus baccata hedging, we crafted two sweeping louvred walls from cut sections of sustainably sourced oak logs harvested within a local radius of Chelsea. Drawing artistic inspiration from Bridget Riley’s op-art masterpieces, one side of the louvres was hand-carved with an undulating rhythm. This design choice creates a striking optical illusion: as visitors walk along the exterior, the shifting louvres offering glimpses of the hidden sanctuary within, playing with light, shadow, and reflections from an adjacent pool of water.

The dual-textured surfaces of the wooden pavilion mirror the transition into the garden itself, contrasting a pared-back exterior with rich, floral compositions created by Hoblyn on the inside. Within the structure, we also installed a custom, textured timber bench, offering a tactile moment of pause to take in the planting. British craftsmanship served as the bedrock for the entire collaboration, with the pavilion’s sculptural wooden shapes even inspiring Boodles’ The Secret Garden high jewellery collection. Following its celebrated debut at Chelsea, the entire wooden structure moved to its permanent home at Boodles on Sloane Street.
