We built and fitted the service area, sake bar and curved corridor, in London’s new epicentre of Japanese culture.
For the sushi restaurant, we used specially selected Hinoki timber from Japan. Extremely rare in Europe. The challenge for us was to find and source a matching complimentary timber for the rest of the furniture. We settled on basswood.
The part kitchen, part social space is inspired by the Japanese concept of the Doma – where family, friends and neighbours gather together at home.
This was a unique opportunity for us to showcase our love of Japanese joinery and detailing in the heart of Kensington.
We worked closely with contractors Beck Interiors, Japanese interior designers, Wonderwall and London based Japanese architects, Edo to furnish this elegant space, paying homage to the chef Akira Shimizu and his ‘trinity of cooking’ principles – food, tableware and presentation.
